DCT Production Continues To Climb
Although DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) technology was initially developed in the late 1980s, it wasn’t until 2003 that a full production series hit the streets.
Back then, the number of vehicles that had a DCT was extremely low. However today those numbers have increased substantially and will continue to do so. As we look at the numbers, DCT applications have increased from just .06% of the total global (automatic) transmission production in 2003 to 15.21% in 2017. And with estimates of over 19.5% in 2023, wet & dry applications will be a significant portion of the total. (Based on IHS data.)
